Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy and development of CVD in Type I Diabetes

Using multivariable logistic regression techniques on data from U.S. residents and an international cohort from Finland, researchers suggest there is an independent association between proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and the development of cerebrovascular disease (CVD) in people with type I diabetes.

Even in type I diabetes patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), there was an independent association between PDR and CVD (odds ratio 0.21 [95% CI 0.08–0.58], P = 0.003).
