A paediatric outpatient study of 335 children aged 10 – 14 years, conducted between 2005 – 2007 in South-East Nigeria determined that allergic conjunctivitis is the most common eye disorder in that age group with a prevalence of 47.2%.
Other disorders included refractive errors (22.16%), trauma (7.98%), and inflammation/infections (7.98%). These figures differ slightly from research data from South-West and Northern Nigeria.
