The Oyo State Chapter of the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria celebrated the World Sight Day 2017 at the Ring Road Hospital, Ibadan in conjunction with the Optometrist Association of Nigeria (Oyo State), Ophthalmic Nurses (Oyo State), and Lions Clubs International District 404B1 on Thursday, 12th October 2017. There were 20 doctors, 12 optometrists, 18 ophthalmic nurses, 20 Lions Club International members and 6 Rotary Club members (Jericho chapter).
The Oyo State Commissioner for Health flagged off the activities for the day.
We were able to examine about 750 patients out of which 70 were booked for cataract surgery (SICS + IOL), paid for by Mr. Gboyega Jimoh (Inaolaji) (20 patients), Novartis Pharmaceuticals (10 patients), Chief Jide Olatunde-Agbeja (4 patients), Mercy Group (1patient), Korlyns Pharmaceuticals (4 patients), Biogenerics (N40,500) and OSN Oyo State (35 patients). 50 patients have already had their surgery within the first 2 weeks after the WSD.
About 450 patients were refracted and 200 were able to obtain free reading glasses on site, donated by the Optometrists Association of Nigeria (Oyo State Chapter).
Drugfield drug company donated 40bottles of Antallerge eye drops, 10bottles Visulent, 6bottles Pilocarpine, 2bottles Tropicamide, 20tubes Oc Chloramphenicol, while SKT Pharmaceuticals donated 100 bottles Norodexa, 50bottles Moloxidex and 100bottles Obadex and MicroNova Pharmaceuticals donated 15bottles Ofloxacin and 15bottles Microsol for the patients.
Ophthalmic Nurses from Adeoyo RRH donated canopies and chairs for the comfort of the patients.
Management of Adeoyo RRH donated fuel to power the generator for the Autorefractors.
A Family doctor from Family Medicine department, UCH came along to look after those with high blood pressure and diabetes.
